A strong LinkedIn post strategy for executives turns that difference into something repeatable: a steady stream of posts that sound like the person, not the brand, and build authority over time.

The posts are more personal because of who they’re from, and they give the people sitting higher up a chance to share their personal stories and industry insights with an audience eager to hear from them.

But as we all know, executives have a lot on their plate, which means someone else on the marketing enablement team may be tasked with helping to bring these posts to life.

I’ll be honest: I struggle to write LinkedIn posts on my own page. Maybe you’ll find books or hobbies they’ve referenced, or industry trends they keep coming back to. At the same time, you’ll get a real feel for their voice and tone, whether they wrote those posts themselves or had help along the way.

From there, you can widen the search. Look at their company bio, past articles for the company blog or a guest publication, and any podcasts they’ve appeared on. Each one can be a window into the topics that genuinely matter to them.

In one instance, I learned from past LinkedIn posts that the president of a company was an avid beekeeper. It has since become a talking point for us and has provided some bridges for content that connects to team dynamics and work-life balance.

A note worth remembering here and moving forward: the majority of LinkedIn content should be educational and value-driven. It’s less self-promotion and more unique perspective.

Carve Out Time To Connect With the C-Suite on Content Strategy

Take the time to connect with an executive for an initial meeting to shape their LinkedIn post strategy. From this conversation, you can surface the topics they’re excited to cover.

A brand’s founder might lean into leadership-focused content. A sales executive, meanwhile, might be interested in answering common questions or busting myths to educate prospective buyers.

This is also an ideal moment to ask where they go for industry news, from what they read to what they listen to. You’re gathering ideas while also digging a well you’ll come back to again and again.

Keep Meeting With Executives Regularly for Their LinkedIn Content

A lot can happen in a month. Someone may have attended an industry event, taken a trip, or had an interesting conversation with a prospective buyer. Regrouping regularly with your C-suite, as their schedule allows, is a good reminder of just how much there is to draw from to amplify their LinkedIn presence.

The value here is really twofold. Yes, it helps you build a steadier pipeline of posts centered around content pillars. But it also gives you a chance to know your subject better, and that familiarity shows up in every post you write, giving it a more emotional, human-centered feel readers notice.

Have a Plan in Place for Posting Content in the Quieter Months

Some months will naturally give you more to work with than others. In the quieter windows, circle back to the publications and podcasts your executive mentioned in that first conversation. Skim recent articles or episodes, and if one ties in well with a topic they care about, use it as a bridge into a new post.

New industry reports can serve the same purpose; a timely stat or finding is often all it takes to spark something worth saying.

Let’s say you’re writing posts for a healthcare executive at an imaging equipment company. If one of the publications they turn to for news highlights an industry survey on radiology burnout, it’s a natural talking point to build thought leadership content around by getting their unique take.

Make Photos Part of the LinkedIn Thought Leadership Strategy

Not every post needs a photo, but there’s real value in working one wherever you can. It makes people more likely to stop scrolling, and it makes the whole post feel more personal.

Sometimes those photos come from a library of project shots, company events and the like. Other times, it means simply asking your executive to send over something from a recent trip, an event, or the places they like to spend time outside of work. It’s always worth the ask.

When I asked one executive where they liked to spend time to clear their head, they mentioned their acres of farmland. They were able to provide photos of this space, sharing a personal space with their feed. It also invited an opportunity to pose a question to their audience: Where do they go to hit the reset button? Opening that door led to a lot of comments on the post and people sharing photos of their own.

Think About AI When You’re Creating Content for Social Media

More people are turning to AI for answers, and AI treats social media platforms like LinkedIn as a trusted knowledge source. In fact, it’s one of the most-cited platforms across tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. That’s shifting how we write posts for a company page, and the same idea holds true for executive content.

One of the best practices goes back to the idea of establishing content themes. AI likes when you build a cluster of posts around a topic, and have each post answer a narrow question.

For instance, if an executive at a security product manufacturer is focused on school safety, you could create a series of posts that answer questions around budgeting, design best practices, and legislation. Covering a few topics in depth tends to outperform one post trying to say it all.

You can also use structure to your advantage. Little signposts like “What this means for you,” along with numbered lists and bullets, help AI models recognize and extract points more reliably than a wall of narrative prose does.

Want the full playbook? Our LinkedIn AI search optimization guide breaks down how to structure posts so AI platforms cite them.

The Payoff of Regularly Posting for Execs Is Worth the Legwork

Helping an executive show up well on LinkedIn takes effort: the research, the conversations, the follow-through month after month. But done right, it pays off for everyone involved.

For the executive, it’s a chance to build trust with an audience that’s paying attention, and the thought leadership that comes out of it can open doors well beyond the feed, from speaking engagements, to media opportunities, to new relationships that start with someone saying, “I saw your post.” For the marketer behind the scenes, it’s another chance to showcase how meaningful storytelling moves the needle.

Put in the work, and presence will follow.

Source link
",
